Tooth Extractions

We understand that tooth pain can make it difficult to enjoy even life’s simplest day-to-day tasks, like chewing and speaking. If a tooth is too infected or injured to be saved, tooth extraction may be the best option to preserve your oral health.

What is tooth extraction?

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth. Our experienced dentists may recommend tooth extraction if a tooth is too severely infected, fractured, or otherwise damaged to be effectively repaired.

A tooth extraction can protect the health of your remaining teeth, as well as the surrounding bone and tissues, and relieve discomfort. No matter the reason for your tooth extraction, our team will ensure that your experience is as comfortable as possible.

When do you need to get a tooth extraction?

At Your Smile Group® Affiliated practices, we strive to protect and preserve your natural teeth when possible. In some cases, however, a tooth extraction is the best option for maintaining your overall oral health. We may recommend a tooth extraction if:

Severe Fracture

A tooth is too severely fractured or cracked to be restored

Advanced Decay

A tooth is too decayed to be repaired with a filling or crown

Deep Infection

A tooth is infected so severely that it cannot be treated with root canal therapy

Impacted Tooth

A tooth is impacted, or unable to properly erupt

Overcrowding

Your teeth are overly crowded and cannot be corrected with orthodontics alone

Why is it important to fill the gap?

In certain cases, such as the removal of wisdom teeth or teeth that are overly crowded, no tooth replacement is needed. However, most tooth extractions leave a gap that needs to be filled. If the gap remains, other teeth may shift into the open space.

This can disrupt the overall spacing and alignment of your teeth, which can affect your bite. Furthermore, the jawbone where the tooth once was will begin to deteriorate following extraction.
