Braces

Braces have been used for decades to help patients achieve straight, beautiful smiles. We offer braces at Your Smile Group® Affiliated practices to correct misaligned teeth and bite problems.

What are braces?

Braces use a system of brackets (made of metal or ceramic) and metal wires to gradually move the teeth to their proper positions. The brackets are cemented to the teeth and connected by wires. During your treatment, you will visit our office regularly to have your braces adjusted. As your braces are adjusted, your teeth are guided into alignment.

Do you need braces?

Braces may benefit your smile if you have problems with the alignment of your teeth or bite. These may include:

Gapped Teeth

Spaces between teeth that affect appearance and bite

Crowded Teeth

Teeth that overlap or don't have enough room

Overbite

Upper teeth extend too far over lower teeth

Underbite

Lower teeth extend past upper teeth

Crossbite

Some upper teeth sit inside lower teeth when biting

Complex Cases

Braces work for mild to severe alignment issues

Taking care of your teeth and braces

It is important to maintain good oral hygiene during your orthodontic treatment. This includes brushing and flossing every day. Your dental team will give you the tools and instruction you need to ensure you can floss and brush effectively while wearing braces.

Depending on your particular needs and preferences, dental crowns can be completed in one or two visits to our office.

Foods to avoid

Certain foods can damage your braces. You should avoid:

  • Hard foods like nuts, hard candies, ice, popcorn, and raw carrots
  • Sticky or chewy foods like caramel, taffy, chewing gum, gummy candy, and fruit snacks
  • Foods you have to bite into, such as corn on the cob, whole apples, and ribs or chicken wings on the bone

How long do you wear braces?

During your consultation with our dentist, we will discuss how long we expect your braces treatment to last. While it depends on your personal needs, most patients have braces for one to three years. The average treatment is approximately 18-24 months.
